Being a mom of five can some days be very exhausting, especially on your nerves. Some days all you really look forward to is naptime. And then when that time finally does come, you just want something to do for yourself… well, that or sleep. However, I decided to use my child free time to do something that brings me happiness… craft.
When most people hear the word “craft” they think… you must have a lot of time to spare. But, the reality of it for me is that I have very little spare time, so I wanted to use what spare time I did get doing something that I love and brings me joy. I believe the happier the mom, the happier the rest of the family.
Please do not misunderstand me, my children and family are so precious to me and I love them deeply and dearly. I enjoy spending my days in their company and caring for them, some days are just really hard on my soul. Mommin’ ain’t easy. But, Mommin’ is also one of the most rewarding jobs I will ever be given.
I believe, though, that God gives each person a gift or talent if you will. Some people are amazing singers and have a heart for music, as my sister-in-law and father-in-law. Other people are given the gift of carpentry like my brother-in-law, who is hands-down the best.deck.builder.EVER. A few dear souls are given the gift of being caretakers, my precious mother-in-law has a heart of gold. And if you are one of the lucky few, you are given the heart of farming and love working God’s land, which my dear husband was granted.
I believe God gave me a gift of crafting, using my two hands given to me, as while I am using them I find my happiness and joy. Anything I can make with my hands, I love and desire to do. My sweet neighbor, Mildred Wattenburger taught me the basic skills of sewing at a very early age and immediately my soul was hooked, or stitched I should say. And so, I began sewing my dolls blankets, skirts, dresses or anything else she would teach me. But my heart longed to learn more skills, so I extended my “crafting” to learn to crochet, taught to me by my aunt, then gardening I learned from my dad, small carpentry (making doll beds, tents, crates, benches, etc) I taught myself, with the help of pinterest and my patient husband. Right now my latest obsession is sign making and painting, I love to find something most people would say is “ugly” (old dirty pallets/barn wood) and turn it into something beautiful and wanted. Which, we have been using reclaimed wood for some time now, so it’s just now coming into “style”. Keeping up with the Varnells, huh?
Since I am now a stay-at-home mom, I decided to just throw some of my creations online
to see what other people thought. And to my surprise, I had a huge interest, which was super exciting for me. So, that was how Kassy’s Krafts was born… the name I just thought was cute (yes, I know how to properly spell craft, but I wanted another “K” so Krafts it is).
I enjoy crafting, it is my talent and I want to use my talent God has given to me. God “crafted” me, so I will “craft” for HIM.
Love always,
Kassy
